Interesting Day

Today Ben was still burning with fever and stayed home from school. Jessica had slight fever and wanted to go to school, so she did. She had a biology test. Joe was well and went to school.

I went to pick up Joe from school and he was a little delayed because he picked up homework for Ben. Joe was with his friend Ryan who lives just down the street. They said they were having a great day and would like to walk home together. I said "sure, no problem."

I drove home, picked up the mail, and sat in the driveway reading the mail. Ryan and Joe came up about 10 minutes later and I asked them, "Are you still having a great day?" They said an older lady pulled over in front of them, rolled down her window, and asked if they would get in the car with them and go to her house and help her unload her groceries. She would give them a dollar each if they would. They took off running and caught up with a classmate who was walking home with an adult.

I called Ryan's mom and we decided to call the police. Since we did not get a license plate number there wasn't a whole lot more they could do, but we do believe it was a credible complaint. The lady actually did a U-turn to follow them as they ran, but when they caught up with others she pulled into a driveway and did another u-turn and drove away. Pretty wild. Ryan's mom had just told Ryan that morning, 'You know if someone comes up to you in a car and tells you that dad and mom have been hurt and are in the hospital, I need you to come with me. You know not to go with them, right?" So kudos to Joe and Ryan who ran away.

It's very easy to pick them up from school and we'll stick to that for awhile now. So that has been my exciting day. I think Ben's fever may have broke. It's hard to tell when you feed him Motrin, and then Tylenol. But he asked for food and he kept it down and it's been 6 hours since medicine. So maybe we'll all sleep tonight.

TTFN.
