Patriot Pen Awards

Jessica decided to come home on Friday, February 14 and take her brothers out for Valentine's Day.  She got in at about 5:30 p.m. and they went out to dinner and a movie.

On Saturday night, Dave and I, Steve and Carol, and Kim and Gladys went out to supper together at an Italian restaurant.  It was nice to be together.  Satur-day I went for coffee with Harriet, Summer, and Mary Beth at Traders.  Jessica met us there and then we went shopping and out to lunch with Jordyn and Carly.  Then Jessica and I went and got our nails done.

Sunday, we went to the District Awards for the Patriot Pen contest.  Joe got 2nd in the District out of 100 entries.  He received 75.00.  He already won 200.00.  Pretty sweet.  The boy who won the Voice of Democracy essay contest was incredible.  I wrote KKCO to see if they could get a copy of it - it was so good.  The VFW asked him to come to their state meeting and read it.  He received a standing ovation.  his topic was "Why I'm Optimistic about Our Nation's Future."  If it gets published anywhere, I'll post it on this blog.  It's awesome.
