December Denver Trip 2012

We listened to an interesting talk a few weeks ago by a man names Maximillion.  He grew up in Oakland, CA and was like the 13th child.  They were very poor, yet he became a millionaire very young.  He never really says how he became a millionaire.  He does say he gave it away and became a preacher for a while and now he is back to making money.  This making money tip was to buy gold bars.  Sound information, but when we scheduled a follow up visit with him, he bailed on us twice.  It was sounding a bit too much like a previous BAD situation we had gotten into so we let it go.  But one thing he did mention was that "Winter is coming."  People think we have survived the worst of the "recession." and that we are rebounding.  But beware because "winter is coming.""  He talked about when all the baby boomers begin to retire and withdraw their 401ks, where is all that "cash" going to come from.  So he talked about a lot of things we already do, like staying debt free, paying cash for things, etc.  So in light of "winter is coming" we didn't have a big Holiday vacation planned.

But we did take three days/two nights to go to Denver.  I was late getting us out of the house and that was probably an okay thing, since a snow plow and an SUV had collided and shut down East bound I-70 for more than two hours.  By the time we got close to where it had happened traffic had been moving for about 20 minutes.  So it was SLOW GOING - but at least we weren't stopped for the two or three hours it took to clean up the accident.  There is a long stretch where it is two lanes.  As soon as it opened up to three lanes we began moving again.  Perhaps someday they will make that improvement to I-70.

We arrived at our "pre-paid" hotel after we had spent some time at Dave and Busters.  When Dave went to check in, the hotel clerk said they had oversold the hotel and had re-booked us at a nearby hotel.  Kind of funny since we had pre-paid, but ok.  We can go with the flow.  We were sent to the Drury Inn which had just opened in August 2012.  We were greeted by very friendly Staff and our rooms were great.  We had a great stay which included lots of Dave and Buster time, a trip to the Van Gogh display at the Denver Art Museum and a 10:45 p.m. movie of "Parental Guidance."  Dave was laughing out loud so much at that movie.  It was fun.  I had already seen it once and loved it.  But of course we really like Billy Crystal and especially City Slickers.

We got home with no traffic delays and it has been cold, cold, cold.  We are experiencing an inversion apparently.

We stopped at Vail Pass on the way to Denver and asked a passerby to snap a photo of us, which we ended up using in our New Year's Card so that worked out great.
