Labor Day Weekend

I remember every Labor Day Weekend having Teresa Lara spend at least one night, sometimes two. We would watch the Jerry Lewis Telethon and the Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin movies and pledge to the telethon. One year we even did a carnival in the backyard and sent the money in. I'm not sure why Jerry Lewis isn't involved this year in the telethon, but he is a funny, funny man. I am reading the book he wrote about he and Dean Martin. I'm only through chapter one, but it is very good so far.

Today I shopped at Sam's Club and Wal-Mart. While at Sam's Club a woman was handing out samples of this rich chocolate cake. I stopped and asked her how she refrains from eating the cake all day. She pulled me aside (she was maybe 15 years older than me) and said, about 8 years ago I bought one of these cakes, took it to my car, sat down on the floor of my car and proceeded to eat the entire cake. I had tears running down my face. I was miserable. Since then I have lost over 100 pounds (she was slim) and I have never had another piece of cake. Well I certainly wasn't expecting that response. We chatted a little more about how she ate lean meats, fish, and lots of veggies which is basically the 17 day diet plan also.

I would love to be a journalist that goes around the country just talking to people and documenting their stories. Everyone has a story.

Another good book that I just finished was Science Fair Season. Remarkable kids who made it to the Intel Science Fair. And I thought my kids were smart...... Holy cow. Great read.

Dave and the boys are back from camping. I have a little more work to do tomorrow, but ought to enjoy part of a day off. I'm going to make them a turkey so they'll have leftovers all week for lunches if they want.

Off to bed for now.
