Week in review 9-10-11

The week has been a very full week. We had Monday off for Labor Day. On Tuesday, there was the teacher, me and one aide. Our other aide texted us to tell us she was still sick and would see us tomorrow. We got by, but the teacher has great ideas and plans and they work better when we are fully staffed. Tuesday evening I went to a Maverick Aquatics Parent Advisory Board meeting. The team is growing in leaps and bounds and two more coaches were hired. It is going to be a big positive for Grand Junction. The coach is young and full of ideas which is awesome. When I got home I worked on homework with Ben and then turn in for the evening. Wednesday the same aide texted in sick again. This was not making any of us happy, especially since each one of us is new and there are 17 new Staff at the school this year. We do not know how to summon a Sub. So again we worked extra hard to keep everyone safe and learning. Wednesday and Thursday evening I went straight to a two hour training on how to work with kids like we have and how to keep them safe and us safe. Wednesday night right after the training I stepped into the house and we were hooked up for the Corps Meeting. Thursday at school, Ellen the other aide that has been faithful had been up all night sick. So now it was the teacher and me. Each new teacher has a mentor and it was TIME to get the mentor involved in HOW do we get a sub. Another aide and the principal have been involved all along, but noone realized we didn't know how to get a sub. The other aide called the sub line and by 11:30 a.m. we had one more body in the classroom. The young aide had texted in sick again. I tend to believe people until they give me a reason not to. I was beginning to get a reason not to believe this young girl (age 23- just moved out on her own, working three jobs.)

The principal sent our mentor in to train us all on how to use the sub line. Basically if I am going to be sick I call the sub line. We tried this on Friday to set ourselves up and it didn't work. The girl we needed to talk to was out for the day. So on Monday we will get all of us set up. The young aide did not come in or call or text on Friday. Just a no show. So the substitute had been asked to come back on Friday by the principal. I think the young girl will either be fired or moved to another position and the position will post to the public. So if anyone is reading this, pray we get a really good aide in the classroom. The teacher, Laura and the other aide Ellen and I get along great and have vision for each of the kiddos in the classroom.

Saturday was an all day fellowship training day and I am writing this on Sunday in the midst of the business work that should be getting done and the shopping and menu planning. But I kind of like using this as a diary of sorts.

So most of the photos are of the kiddos in our class. There is one of the aide Ellen who did a cooking day on Friday and she is pictured with one of the students, C. C and I go to math together and I love it because it's algebra. When we get fully staffed, we will probably trade off who goes with him so he doesn't get dependent upon one person, but for now I really like it. The dark haired little boy I who is pictured with his food tends to throw his food on the ground or at people. So here he is with the teacher holding on to his tray and him eating. That is an accomplishment. The three girls and I walk the track after lunch so I get a little bit of exercise each day which is nice.

I forgot to mention that Tuesday afternoon the five boys that I give a ride home to met at my classroom. They wanted to play in the playroom until all the boys got there. Well in playing in the playroom, one boy broke his arm (dislocated his elbow). It was awful. The teacher, Laura was still there and she really took care of him, laying him down, holding his arm. We called the principal and she wanted to call the ENT's instead of me transporting him. So mom met us at the school and the EMT ENT?s splinted his arm and mom took him to the hospital. It was a dislocated elbow and a small fracture possibly at the wrist. I always thought I could be a nurse, but I was so emotional then watching him and very emotional a year and a half ago when Joe lost his tooth. It's just different when it's a child. James is okay and is pictured in the group of Joe and his friends on Friday. There was a 9/11 assembly and this was out front before it started.

So all I can say is "Phew" what a week. Next week, I don't have any evening activities other than a PTA meeting on Tuesday night at Ben's school and fellowship Wednesday evening, so it should be slower. Dave's birthday is Friday and Ben has the day off school that day so they'll have fun with each other that day.

The teacher puts on the classroom board what we are to work on with each child each day. That's why the photo of the board.

More later. Back to work now.
