Today Ben got up early for school. He said that yesterday in Band Mr. Mitchum said, "If anybody plays through the rest, he/she needs to bring cookies tomorrow." So Ben made sure he played through the rest. So we went to Safeway before school and got some cookies for him to bring to Band and some candy for Tami's candy bowl. Tami was very thankful.
I worked at home until I received the call about Joe's xrays and report being ready at Dr. Gebhard's office. I drove down there and picked up the report and CDs of the xrays and then headed to the chiropractor's office so he could make a copy of the report and look at the xrays. I asked him to explain the results a little to me. He said Kyphosis is like the hunch over part of your back. I would say Dave's mom probably has a pretty severe kyphosis as did her mom. In Joe's upper back he has loss of kyphosis which means where there should be a natural curve, it is straight. Then he has a short segment kyphosis in the upper lumbar spine through the L1-L3 levels measuring 29 degrees. His curves are 51 and 30 degrees. Surgery is recommended because of he magnitude or his curvature as well as the complexity of his deformity. The fact that Joe was feeling tingling/numbness in his legs is why we did the MRIs today and I'm sure that could be a factor in how soon surgery is needed. Right now we are thinking December especially since my insurance deductible for Joe will have been met.
I picked Joe up from school after I saw Dr. Nick and we headed to Community Hospital. Turns out he would need 1 1/2 hours of MRIs instead of 3 hrs so that's not too too bad. Dave picked Ben up from school about an hour later and brought him to me at Community where we had his xrays taken to see if he shows any signs of scoliosis. We'll know more next week.
When we got home I flat out crashed out. I haven't done that in months. I had the drool, the disorientation, the whole shabang. It's now 8:30 p.m. and Ben has two friends spending the night. I wrote my e-mail to American Airlines requesting reimbursement for our Hotel Rooms and mini-bar raid. We'll see when I hear back on that.
Heading upstaris soon to read and relax. I am teaching on Sunday for Fellowship here so I need to be thinking about that too.
