End of the Week Thoughts

On Friday, January 15, Ben started his "job" so-to-say.  He is working at Nerd Tap.  They fix computers, cell phones and other electronics.  David from Nerd Tap had consulted with Ben during the build of Ben's computer.  This is a non-paying position, but Ben does receive service hours for school.

I dropped him off at 3:00 p.m. and stayed a few minutes while they put a protective cover on my phone.  They were asking Ben to think of a difficult situation that he had been in that he didn't know how to handle.  What did he do?  I was sitting there thinking hmmm, can I think of one for me?  It was difficult.  The cell phone guy finished my phone and I said goodbye.  I said, "Good luck, Ben.  That's a tough question.  I hope you figure it out."  David told him that this was a great interview question and he may come up against this question in future job interviews.

When I picked Ben up two hours later I asked Ben how he had answered it.  All he told me was they re-phrased the question.  I don't know how they re-phrased it.  I just know I was impressed how they were treating him just like any other employee.  He helped fix a computer and he took apart a cellphone and put it back together.  They said, next week they would work on the "social" aspects of the job.  Because many times, "geeks" or "nerds" have trouble with that.  David talked about how he had to push himself in that area to get good at it.  He said they would have Ben answering the phone next week.

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed.

On Saturday, I went out to breakfast with two friends.  Cathy who was the principal at Bookcliff Middle School but retired two years ago and Tami, who was my very first friend I made when we moved to Grand Junction (and she is now the secretary at Bookcliff).  We had a fun time visiting and catching up.

I then headed to Sprouts and Sam's Club.  I bought a lot of food that was recommended to me by the trainer at Gold's Gym.  I now have a better idea of what to bring to the gym for a snack if I plan to stay there for more than two hours.  That does happen sometimes.  I'm still learning though and Rebecca is a good checkpoint person for me.  My trainer has not given me his cellphone number and it's probably a good thing.  But Rebecca lets me bother her at any time.  :)

Last night Joe and Dave went to see the movie "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi."  They said it was really good.  Ben was going to go but then he didn't feel real well after he ate.  He was better as the night went on, but he missed the opportunity.

This morning we had 10:30 fellowship.  I led and Dave taught.  Then I scrambled over to Wal-mart for some more shopping and got home just in time for a 2:00 hookup with the Dungeys.  (They are our Branch coordinators - so this was a Fellowship coordinator meeting.)

I just got done putting the food away and am getting ready to type up my weekly exercise/eating plan.  Then it will be time to make supper and prepare for the week ahead.

There's really not too much exciting going on in my head today.  I will be sending some Fitbit challenges your way in the days to come.  This is for my benefit; not to see if you are making your goal or not.  But hopefully for us to encourage one another.  That's all I got.  Until next time.
