On the Job

Day One was the most challenging day with behaviors but the teacher held her ground. The child with the most violent behavior can't believe his teacher knows Martial Arts and isn't as inclined to take her on again. I think he gained a new respect for his teacher. So we'll see how that goes. He's very smart and learning algebra where some are at 1st or 2nd grade level and some are at preschool level. Not sure how you are supposed to pull all that together in a classroom and teach to all, but will watch the teacher as she does it.

Joe is loving Middle School. He said all his teachers have said that the particular class he is in has been the quickest class to grab the concepts they've been teaching them. So he's like I got really good classes and teachers. Had trouble trying to figure out if I should push to have him in Honors Language Arts. His 5th grade teacher felt like he should definitely be in there. I still don't know his spring scores but he doesn't test as well as his ability. And this year the Honors LA class is 6th/7th. So I decided to keep it as it is - don't push for honors. And right now he is saying he thinks Language Arts is his favorite class. The teacher is a Chess Instructor who holds Chess tournaments that Joe has attended, so it is a win/win. I would love for him to get to where he confesses he loves Language Arts.

Ben is loving 4th Grade. Mrs. Nelson is a great teacher. She is letting them pick jobs next week like you would in the real world. You have to apply for the job and if you want to quit the job you'll have to give notice and turn in a letter of resignation. He's excited for that next week. I believe we'll see big growth for him this year. Joe's huge growth was in his 4th grade year with Mrs. Nelson.

Jessica is in 11th grade. She goes to swim practice twice a week from 5:15 a.m. to 6:15 a.m. and then to school and then from school to swim practice from 4:00 pm to 6:00 p.m. So we are waiting to eat supper until 6:15 so we can all eat together. This gives me a little more time too to get it ready. She has really hard classes, but she would have it no other way.

Dave has had lots of big jobs come through this week which has been great.

We got a photo of Jess and Joe on Day one of school, but Ben was still asleep. Ben doesn't start school until 8:50 a.m. where Jess and Joe start at 7:30ish. Using the weekend to get caught up on Business work, personal finances, groceries and meal planning. Week one down and in the bag.
