We slept in til 7 today. Woo hoo. Very lazy morning - breakfast, showing mom how to put photos on the Nook. I think we finally got out of the hotel around 11:30 a.m.
We headed to the "hood." You know the neigh-bor-hood. We called Earl from the car to ask if we could come over. We drove down Lewelling which is being all torn up to widen it to 4 lanes. The whole section in front of St. Johns and in front of SLZ is torn up. They are going to make it 4 lanes. We drove down Mills from the Empire side of the street - driving past Donna Brady's, the McMahons, the Philpots, the Bigelows - wait - there's Vicky Bigelow getting out of her car. I stop in the middle of the street. Do I drive down to Earls, do I stop at Vicky's. Lisa says, "I'll get out." We drop Lisa at Vicky's and Vicky's jaw drops to the ground and we go park by Earl's and tell him we'll be right back. (Earl is pruning his bushes in the front yard.)
Vicky only had a few moments as she needed to get her grandchild (Bruce's daughter) to Berkeley. We said hi to Charlie, Vicky and Iena (the granddaughter), took a few photos and headed over to Earls. Earl looks fantastic. Lisa wanted an orange so he took us through the house to the backyard. He wanted us to see that he had our photos up in his hallway (see the photo). I was proud to know I had made Earl's wall. We went out back and Lisa got her orange. I flipped the crate over so I could look in our backyard. We got three photos of our backyard. They've planted a lemon tree and a few other trees in the back. Earl is doing well even after bypass surgery. Eve is still very frail and can't speak. We did not go visit her this visit. Mom and I visited her four years ago on that visit.
From Earls we thought we'd go poke around at Bayfair, but in reality we only went to Target at Bayfair. We got a few necessities and then ate in the Target cafe.
Off to Fremont to Kaiser Medical Center. Mom had new xrays taken - something about the ones she brought and them not being able to read them????? But anyway brand new xrays. The Dr. was incredible. What a great guy and what a great bedside manner. She got all her questions answered to her satisfaction. Bottom line is both artificial hips should last her the rest of her life. The bruising may have come from a tendon around the hip bone breaking off and bleeding. He showed us a rounded bone on the right side, but a more jagged bone on the left side. Mom had just a tiney bit of soreness still and that appeared to be the explanation for it. He answered all her questions. We thanked him profusely and went to take care of the bill.
We planned to go by dad's gravesite but it was getting close to feeding time (4pm - when Bancheros open). We drove past Holy Sepulchre but there is so much construction on Mission Blvd. and the entrance to the cemetery is all torn up. It's available to get in there, just not as easy. We didn't have any flowers with us, so we drove on buy and headed to Bancheros. Can't help but think of dad and moms 25th wedding anniversary "after party" at Bancheros. We of course had the soup, the salad, the bread, the pasta, and the prawns, and the sherbert/ice cream. YUM YUM.
Right now Mom and Lisa are in the lobby making phone calls cuz we don't get that great of reception in our room. Tomorrow my college friend, Pam Williams, is meeting us at the hotel and we are taking BART to SF. Not sure what all is on the agenda but cable cars for sure.
Until then.
Love you,
Patty
